Hydrogen Future Industries PLC has secured a significant licensing agreement, valued up to €2.25 million, to expand and deploy its wind-based green hydrogen production systems in Ireland. This agreement aligns with Ireland’s ongoing efforts to advance its renewable energy infrastructure, including hydrogen technologies.
Under the new framework, a newly established company, HFI Ireland, will develop a pilot hydrogen production system to showcase the effectiveness of green hydrogen in the region. This entity will operate under a 20-year license, granting it exclusive rights and potentially contributing up to €2.25 million to the parent company over the duration of the agreement. HFI PLC will maintain a 30% equity stake in HFI Ireland, which is expected to increase to 40% following an additional €1 million investment in the pilot project.
Dan Maling, HFI’s Chief Commercial Officer, highlighted the urgency of addressing Ireland’s energy challenges, driven by the growing demand from data centers. He emphasized the positive political momentum towards renewable energy solutions and noted that the hydrogen infrastructure is a key component of Ireland’s energy transition. Maling pointed out that the terrain and wind conditions in western Ireland are particularly suitable for HFI’s smaller, more environmentally friendly turbines, offering an opportunity for data centers, industries, and agriculture to generate their own renewable energy.
HFI Chairman Neil Ritson praised the licensing deal as a testament to the value of the company’s intellectual property and its role in the renewable energy sector. He noted that CEO Tim Blake has built valuable relationships with industry players in Ireland over the past decade. Ritson expressed anticipation for future updates on specific project opportunities and the pursuit of new sources of non-dilutive financing.
